
Dido, queen of Carthage, was granted as much land as one oxhide could cover — so she cut the hide into a thin strip and enclosed a whole hill with it. Mathematicians still call the maximum-enclosure boundary problem “Dido’s problem.”

The tool is not infinitely thin. The line you drew and the line the machine cuts are different lines, and Dido computes the difference: cutter compensation for milling, kerf for laser and plasma, support regions for resin. Every module that turns a drawing into a cut leans on it.
You will rarely open Dido on its own. You will see its work every time a part comes off the machine at the size you drew it.
